My journey as an artist began at fifteen, when my family moved to Stowe, Vermont and purchased the Smugglers Inn on Route 100. Between school and helping run the inn, I found myself surrounded by creativity, inspiration, and people who would shape my future as a New England fine artist.
One summer, we hosted artist Sallie Benton, whose encouragement introduced me to a community of painters connected to the New York Art Students League. Through her, I met renowned artist Frank Mason, celebrated for his Renaissance-style mastery. Sallie and this extended circle of professional artists welcomed me into their world, allowing me to observe critiques, study technique, and even have my early work reviewed. This was the true beginning of my development as an artist.
At Stowe High School, a supportive art program guided by teacher Kathy N. helped nurture that early passion. I later attended the Swain School of Design, where I deepened my understanding of craftsmanship, painting, and creative problem-solving. Although I left during my junior year, that foundation stayed with me throughout my life.
Over the years, I followed many creative paths. I ran a historical restoration company, learning decorative painting, wallpapering, and fine finish work — skills that strengthened my eye for detail and design. I have always been drawn to work that brings beauty, craft, and personal touch together.
After raising my children, I returned to the art world more fully. I worked in galleries, sold artwork, and eventually opened my own storefronts showcasing both my pieces and the work of other artists. My studio in Kennebunk, Maine became the place where I refined my style and developed the Butterworth Fine Art brand.
Today, I focus primarily on creating original artwork, fine art stationery, and canvas art prints inspired by the New England coast, especially Maine. My collections include plein-air paintings, coastal scenes, and artwork created using my signature “Butterworth-Art-technique.” Most of my work is now available online through my growing stationery line and print offerings.
While I no longer operate a physical gallery, you can often find me painting outdoors along the coast or exploring creative photography throughout Maine. Every piece I create carries elements of my journey — the early influence of master artists, my years in restoration, the experience of raising a family, and the landscapes that continue to inspire me.
Thank you for visiting Butterworth Fine Art. I’m honored to share my work with you.

At BUTTERWORTH FINE ART, we aim to connect people with art that inspires and uplifts. I have a diverse range of contemporary & traditional artwork from Seascapes to scenic landscapes of farm houses and golden fields along the New England coast.

Butterworth Fine Art brings the soul of the New England coast to life—capturing rugged shores, quiet harbors, and Maine’s timeless character through a masterfully trained painter’s eye.
